I've Done Everything for You
"I've Done Everything for You" is a 1978 song written and sung by American rock musician Sammy Hagar and covered by Australian singer Rick Springfield whose version became a Top 10 hit in the United States in 1981.
Hagar version
"I've Done Everything for You" was a staple of Sammy Hagar's live performances as early as 1977. A live version of the song (running time: 3:35) appeared on the 1978 live album All Night Long and was released as a single (on Capitol P4596 b/w "Someone Out There") but did not chart. (That album was released in the UK in 1979 as Loud & Clear.) In 1979, a studio version was released as a b-side to the non-album single of "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" (a cover of the Otis Redding hit). This studio version was first released on LP on the 1982 greatest hits album Rematch following the success of the Rick Springfield version.
Springfield version
A cover version of the Hagar-penned "I've Done Everything for You" appeared on Rick Springfield's 1981 international breakout album Working Class Dog. It was released (on RCA PB 12166 b/w "Red Hot & Blue Love") as the follow up single to the Grammy award-winning and #1 single, "Jessie's Girl", peaking at #8 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100.[1]
